App Store Privacy

Local annotation does not require cloud upload. The Mac app offers optional external AI connections; the native iPhone and iPad app does not.

AnnotateIt for macOS and iOS/iPadOS share an App Store record. This page explains the differences between those apps and should be read with the full Privacy Policy.

Native iPhone and iPad App

The native iOS/iPadOS app stores projects and runs its supported AI tools on the device. It has no AI Assistant API-key or desktop CLI connection. It does not send project content to OpenAI, Anthropic or an AnnotateIt project-processing server. Content you explicitly export or share follows the destination you choose.

Opening the AnnotateIt web app in Safari or another browser follows the Web section of our privacy policy: the web app can use your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. That is separate from the native iOS/iPadOS app.

Mac App

Manual annotation, project storage and local AI tools run on your Mac. You may separately connect OpenAI or Anthropic using your own provider API key, or ChatGPT / Claude Code through their installed CLIs. When you send a request, your message and requested project context go to the selected provider (OpenAI or Anthropic). If an image is attached, its preview, dimensions, project labels and annotation context are included. A batch sends the eligible images from the scope you select. These requests do not pass through an AnnotateIt project-processing server.

External AI is optional. You can disable image attachment, stop requests, remove your API key or sign out of the connected CLI account. The external AI section explains attachment defaults, data sent, credential storage and provider controls. The Mac app may also send selected dataset bundles to a configured ML runner when you start a supported job, and connect directly to IP cameras you add.

Understanding the Shared App Store Privacy Label

Apple's App Privacy answers apply to the app record across its platforms. The shared label must account for the data practices of the Mac app as well as the iPhone and iPad app. A data category associated with an optional Mac connection does not mean that the native iOS/iPadOS app offers that connection or sends that data.

Files, Photos and Camera

The app accesses photos, videos, files, folders or the camera only when you select or capture content for an annotation workflow. Camera capture can take photos or record silent video clips; it does not request microphone access. Access is limited by operating-system permissions. Selected and captured content is stored locally. You can export or share it, including through an optional external AI request or ML runner job on Mac as described above.

Accounts, Tracking and Advertising

The native Mac, iPhone and iPad apps do not require an AnnotateIt cloud account for local annotation and do not include advertising or AnnotateIt product analytics. Optional OpenAI or Anthropic connections on Mac use your own external account. The separate website and web app use the cookieless analytics described in our privacy policy.

Support

If you contact umno.annotateit@gmail.com, the message and attachments you choose to send are handled as described in the Privacy Policy. This support communication occurs outside the core annotation workflow.

Platform Services

The app store, operating system, crash-reporting settings and device backup services may process information under the platform provider's terms. These platform-controlled services are separate from AnnotateIt's own data collection.
